Pristine rain forests, black sand beaches, the world's most active volcano, beautiful sunrises, and just about every vacation activity you could imagine: this is the Big Island of Hawaii. Rising more than 30,000-feet from the center of the Pacific Ocean, it is larger than all of the other Hawaiian islands combined.

With a direct view of the ocean from your front porch, you may spend your whole vacation simply gazing at the waves, though this romantic two bedroom cottage is the perfect home base for exploring the unique natural and cultural heritage of the Big Island. Hilo, located just 35-minutes away, is the orchid growing capital of the world, and is home to several magnificent botanical gardens, museums, galleries, and restaurants. Hilo hosts a wonderful farmer's market every Wednesday and Saturday with a bounty of tropical fruits and flowers. The main attraction nearby is Volcanoes National Park, a scenic 45-minute drive from the cottage, where you can see live lava flows and witness the formation of the newest land on the planet.
All across the Big Island you'll discover small towns with specialty shops, native crafts, and a variety of international cuisines. The closest town is relaxed Pahoa, which has a quaint frontier-style village with grocery stores, banks, restaurants, internet cafes, laundromats, health centers, and other conveniences. The local farmer's market at Maku'u on Sundays is not to be missed. Rainbow Dreams Cottage is situated in an alternative energy area with solar power and catchment from the rain for water. Nearby are tide pools for snorkeling at Kapoho, a warm pond naturally heated by the volcano at Ahalanui State Park, and the black sand beach at Kehena. And, without cell phones, internet or T.V.'s, you have a chance to really unplug and enjoy tropical paradise at its best!
